Plum MimiG Fall Dress

Its pretty well know that Mimi G is one of my favorite sewing/fashion bloggers. I follow her on her blog, Facebook and Instagram. So when Mimi added this Fall Dress tutorial I had to have it. It reminded me of V1314 with the rouching but I figured this eas better becsuse it would be custom drafted to my measurements.

Well that wasn’t entirely true, not because the tutorial was not clear, but rather because I’m not the best at measuring myself.  I was too generous in the waist and hips. Also the shoulders were a little too wide. Thankfully those were easy to fix, both in the dress and in my pattern pieces. So next time I’ll be perfect. Actually I’ve already made a variation of this pattern. It will be posted layer this week.

I love this tutorial and the pattern you create. I think there are endless modifications that could be applied to make a different dress each time you make it.

Pattern: Mimi G Fall Dress

Pattern Description: gathered waist front dress with sleeve variations and neck band.

Sizing: self drafted to your measurements

Difficulty: 2 only because of the self drafting

Fabric Used: purple ponte from a local fabric store

Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes though my gathering needs some work (I really hate gathering, but I love how it looks)

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the video tutorial is extremely helpful. The only issue I had was measuring myself for the self drafting. My shoulders ended up too broad and I added too much ease through the waist and hip.

Likes: It’s a very simple but cute dress that could be made in either a light or heavy weight fabrics. Since you can also vary the length of you sleeve this could easily be made into a spring dress

Dislikes: none

Pattern alterations or any design changes made: None. I chose 3/4 sleeves.

Would I sew it again? Yes. I already have with modifications.

Would I recommend it to others? Yes!

Conclusion: Great dress!

Total cost: $9.98

2yds purple ponte @ $4.99/yd = $9.98
