Eggplant Pintuck Skinny Pants – Simplicity 1019

I keep thinking today is Friday so I want to say TGIF, but instead I will say happy almost Friday! Anyway, whatever day it is I just wanted to bring you this quick pattern review for Simplicity 1019 (a Mimi G pattern!).

If you’ve been following along with me on the Fabric Mart Fabricista Fashion Challenge then you know I made these pants for my Week 3 Sewing Tutorial on How to Hem Pants challenge. I mentioned that I was happy to be assigned the How to Hem Pants tutorial because I had these pants on my to do list ever since this pattern was released.

I don’t make many pants but these seemed straight forward and I loved that they called for a knit. I used eggplant ponte from Fabric Mart because I have quite a bit of it and I love purple. I also thought that purple would photograph better than a black or gray.

I love this pattern. The instructions are straightforward, but why read the pattern when you can sew along with Mimi G herself! Mimi G provides a sew along video for each view of all of her Simplicity patterns. Isn’t that awesome! If you are experienced sewists you likely won’t need either as the pants sew up quickly.

I typically do a BBA (big booty adjustment) on any pants pattern (meaning I cut along the crotch line of the back leg pattern piece from the inside seam almost to the side seam and spread it outabout 1″ to allow some extra room for my derriere) but I was rushing with the pants because I really needed to get to the hemming portion for my tutorial. I realized this as soon as I had cut the pattern piece out of the ponte, I decided to move ahead and thankfully I did not have a bit issue. I’m assuming because Mimi G is a curvy girl herself her patterns might accommodate curves better. Whatever the reason I was ecstatic and plan to purchase and sew up any of her pants patterns.

Check out the photo I created

The only adjustment I made was increasing the SA for the front crotch to 3/4″ to eliminate pull along the front of the pant. The only change I should have done was place the back pockets closer to the center, I feel they are too far apart. I love these pants and will be making more!

Pattern: Simplicity 1019

Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the directions are straightforward, but really I just watched the video tutorial

Likes: I like the slim pant, the pintuck front, the side zip and the back pockets.

Dislikes: none

Pattern alterations or any design changes made: None

Would I sew it again? Yes! I’m planning at least to more pairs in black and gray.

Would I recommend it to others? Yes definitely

Conclusion: This a cute simple pair of comfy knit pants you can sew up fairly quickly.

  1. Cute pants! I tried a Mimi G pattern a few weeks ago and I really liked it. I think her designs work well for curvy gals. Could you do a photo explanation of the full booty adjustment?

  3. Thanks for posting this. I just bought this pattern along with several others, since it was only a buck on sale, and I have been searching for a skinny pants pattern that’s not quite leggings. This looks like just the ticket. Great fit and good to know there is room in the seat! 🙂 I hope mine turn out half as nice as yours did. Love the color, too!

Good luck. I still need to make another pair of these.

  4. […] BBA (big booty adjustment) but I didn’t this time. Previously when I made another Mimi G pattern, S1019, I forgot to make this adjustment and the pants turned out fine, so I took a chance that these […]

  5. […] I already had this heavier weight black ponte in my stash for S1019. I’ve made these pants before but the ponte was a too lightweight for pants. Hopefully this ponte will be the perfect […]

  6. […] I haven’t tried. Ultimately decided on Simplicity 1019 because I’ve made them before (here) and my recent success with another Mimi G Simplicity pattern, S8093 that I used for my cropped […]
