SNEAK PEAK: Stained Glass Crossroads Dress

Thanks to Sewing Portfolios I had the opportunity to be a pattern tester for this super cute but simple girls pattern from Call Ajaire. Sewing Portfolios provides a FREE digital home to store all of your sewing projects. You can use it as a personal portfolio or a way to connect with pattern makers and fabric manufacturers and more. Head over to to learn more.

On to this great pattern Crossroads girls pattern from indie pattern maker Call Ajaire. This pattern offers two styles; a unique crossroads front and a solid front. Both styles feature the option to be a top, short tunic, dress and maxi dress. In addition to those 8 options there are 4 sleeve lengths; sleeveless, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and full sleeve. That’s 24 different possibilities from just one pattern! This pattern can be used year round, just adjust your fabric weight and sleeve length and you can go from summer to winter.

I sewed up the short sleeve solid dress (View G) in this knit I’ve been hoarding long enough to have forgotten what project I originally purchased it for. Thankfully I had two yards and that was the right amount to make this dress view. I sewed a size 10 for Miss Socialite, who is going on 10, and the fit was great. The only issue was the length, this dress hits her lower than the sketch for this view illustrates. However, both of my (step)kids are below average height so keep that in mind. Obviously you’d rather have it too long than not long enough. I haven’t decided whether I will shorten the dress or by how much.

The only other thing I would point out is the neckline, I had never attached a neckline as it was instructed in this pattern. The neckline is bound and the instrutions are clear. If by chance they are not clear to you, Ajaire has provide a video tutorial on how to sew a bound neckline.

I definitely have plans to sew up some more views of this pattern. Miss Socialite has requested a tunic and a top, so hopefully I can get to those sooner than later.

The Crossroads Pattern will be launching TONIGHT (May 9th)! Click here to purchase this pattern from Designs by Call Ajaire!

Description:  a dress and top pattern designed for a comfortable fit with modern style. The slim fit top hugs the hip and pairs perfectly with a pair of flared jeans, while the tunic flares out at the hip and offers great coverage for wearing with leggings. The dress lengths fall at the knee with plenty of flare and the maxi lands near ankle height. Views A through D feature a unique cut out design at the center front that is pieced together using french seams to create both an opportunity for colorblocking and a bit of texture to the bodice. Views E through H have a solid front piece and will quickly become your go to staple pattern for a quick sew to feature all those fun fabrics out there. All views have a solid back.

Sizing: Newborn-12 years

Difficulty: 1/beginner (for the solid versions E-H)

Fabric Used: a jersey blend from Girl Charlee

Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very

Likes:  All the options of this pattern are terrific. Sew the solid for a quick cute dress or spend a little more time for the unique crossroads effect.

Dislikes: None

Pattern alterations or any design changes made: None

Would I sew it again? Yes, I want to make the crossroads version probably in a tunic.
