Made by a Fabricista: Simplicity 8330

Can you believe I didn’t have a LBD in my wardrobe? What kind of sewist am I? This had to be remedied fast. Thankfully Fabric Mart had this amazing black ponte in stock and I was perfect for S8330! The pattern does call for woven fabric, but with consideration a woven garment can often be made in a sturdy knit. I based my sizing off of the finished measurements. Simplicity sewing pattern.

Pattern: Simplicity 8330

Pattern Description: A gorgeous open back mermaid style gown or choose a classic little black dress. The sleeveless halter dresses can be made short, long with a leg slit, or with a mermaid tail of tulle. Dresses features an invisible zipper and a button and loop closure on the neck band.

Sizing: 4-12, 12-20 I sewed a 16 front/18 back for the bodice and a 18 front/20 back skirt.

Difficulty: 2/easy

Fabric Used: Black ponte from Fabric Mart

Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes, exactly like it.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very

Likes:  princess seam bodice, open back option

Dislikes: None

Pattern alterations or any design changes made: I eliminated the interfacing for the bodice because I used a knit.

Would I sew it again? Maybe, I’d like to sew the open back version.

Would I recommend it to others? Yes, the pattern could be dressed up or down depending on the view and fabric.

Conclusion: The perfect LBD for me.
