White Jumpsuit - McCalls 7099
I'm a fan of the saying "everything ain't for everybody". For years I have thought jumpsuits jsut weren't for me. I've just never felt they work with my body type. They seem to be best suited for the tall and lean type and I have a tummy and I'm only average height. Still I've noticed jumpsuits have been pretty popular the last few years and this year it looks like the trend will continue. I guess that's why, while out with my mother and sister shopping, I decided try on this ivory jumpsuit that caught my eye. I was pretty positive that it wasn't going to look cute on me, but it just looked so cute on the hanger that I had to give it a try.Alas! I was right...the bottom actually looked fine, but the top top was too loose. I couldn't do a smaller size because then the bottom would've been to tight. Sure I could've taken in the top, but I decided to just leave it. Then I thought to myself "Duh!!!, I could just make one to fit"I picked McCalls 7099 because of the tapered leg and also because of the wrap bodice. I figured 1) I like my legs and 2) maybe the fitted leg wouldn't appear as frumpy as a straight or wide leg. I went with a white ponte because I was still stuck on the ivory one in the store and white was the closest to ivory that I had in my stash. Plus white is great for spring and I can't wait for spring to get here. Additionally a white jumpsuit was going to go with my B&W duster and my leopard jumper/dress in my submission to Pattern Review's Travel Wardrobe Contest.
The pattern sewed up very quickly. I did my typical "big booty adjustment" and added 1" to the crotch line. I also removed about 1/2" from the top front pieces to compensate for the adjustment. I did have to take in the pants along the outside edge, next time I may cut a size smaller. And the only other thing was the shoulders seemed a bit wide, next time I'll narrow the shoulder.I will share that after sewing the entire bodice together I noticed this...
...little holes in my front bodice piece!!!! I almost cried. Instead of trying to cover them with a pocket or applique I just pulled out my seam ripper took that piece off, cut another and sewed that whole side back together.
