My Version of the Infamous Go-To Dress - McCalls 6886

There really isn't much to say about this pattern that hasn't been said. It is a favorite on Pattern Review, you'll find it as an honorable mention on their "Best Pattern  of 2014" list. It is also a popular pattern in some of the Facebook sewing groups that I am in.I think the popularity is due to its versatility and ease to sew. You can keep it simple with just two pattern pieces...no darts, no bindings, no elastic, no closures.  You you can modify the pattern by adding back or bust darts for a better fit, but I find in a stretch knit, such as an ITY, the pattern works well as is. The pattern includes 3 sleeve length options as well as 3 necklines and 4 lengths. If you lack curves or have plenty of them you many need to adjust at the bust and/or hip but otherwise I think this pattern could work for all body types.I've already whipped up two of these after the first one was completed from cut to hem in less than 2 hours. The first one was View B out of a mystery knit I picked up as a remnant at my favorite local store. The second was a ITY - a remnant from the same store- this time I elongated View B to the midi length of View E. I love both and am already thinking of another printed knit I think would be great with the pattern. I only have 1 yard of that fabric, so I'm thinking of adding a inset of a solid knit near the hem.I love this pattern so much I plan to buy it again when it goes on sale again, just in case. Next time I'll trace the pattern for future modifications. I've seen this pattern used as a base for a crop top and maxi skirt, a t-shirt dress, and a maxi dress. You could add length to the waist and add gathers for a slimming rouching effect or even add a peplum to the bottom for a fit and flare look.
