Maroon Flutter Sleeve Gathered Top - McCalls 7046
I purchased this pattern quite a while ago with the plan to make the dress (View C). I loved the gathering and the peplum. Later I found a beautiful bright floral cotton jersey that would be perfect for a summer version of this pattern. However I had never used elastic in a seam allowance for gathering and I was a bit of hesitant to cut into my beautiful floral fabric. So I never did.Fast forward to last week, I needed a quick sew to feed my sewing addiction and thought about McCalls 7046 wanting to hold on to the last bit of summer. Still not wanting to cut into that floral cotton jersey I decided to make a wearable muslin. Going through my fabric stash I found a large scrap of this maroon rayon/lycra knit. It was not enough for the dress but just enough for the top as View A only requires 7/8 yd. I decided the top would still fill the purpose of a muslin for the dress as the only difference is length and adding the peplum.I really like the top! Although next time I will definitely make it in a jersey for more of a casual look. The shiny lycra knit is a little much for this simple top to me. Regardless I paired it with slacks and wore it to work today! I'm looking forward to making the dress with long sleeves for the fall.Pattern: McCalls 7046Pattern Description: Close-fitting, pullover tops and dresses have elasticized side seams and narrow hem.
