Grown Up Pillowcase Dress: McCalls 7405

I haven't had much time to sew for myself recently. So I wanted a quick project that would give me instant gratification. This dress, M7405, is one of McCalls Learn to Sew for Fun patterns, their line of very easy patterns for beginners.I highly recommend this pattern for newbie sewists as it is very simple but still stylish. If you can sew a girls pillow case dress you can sew this grown up version. There are only 3 pattern pieces; front, back and the necktie. I'd say the most complicated task is turning the neckties.My tips for a beginner would be to read the instructions before doing anything else! Then cut the pattern and begin sewing. Also a solid or a busy pattern is best! Stripes, chevrons or anything else linear would look best with matching side seams and create an extra step (and maybe more fabric).This multi-colored fabric is a lightweight rayon. I only had 2 yards of this fabric so the choice to make View A was an easy one. I cut a medium and feel it fits well, though I could have gone up to a large for a fuller dress. If you are unsure about size, my bust is 38" and the finished bust measurement for a Medium is 42.5" which means my dress has 4.5" of ease. The large has a finished bust measurement of 46.5, which would have given me 8.5 of ease. That was more ease than I like generally, though I can see puckering at the front armscye (armhole) which is due to the bust. If you need help with fitting and understanding ease check out my post, Selecting the Right Pattern Size.The only possible complaint I could have is that the armscyes drop quite low. Not low enough to show any side boob but low enough that I caught myself check for a wardrobe malfunction the first time I wore it. When I threw it on a second time I was more confident and didn't do a double check. If you want to be safe I would just raise the side seam of both the front and back pieces up about an inch.This dress was perfect for what I wanted a quick and easy project for me. I sewed this up in about an hour, not including the fabric and pattern cutting (I'm a slow cutter). I guess that could have added another half hour to an hour, which still makes it a 2 hr sew for a intermediate sewist. I'm seriously considering sewing up View C before fall hits here in Georgia.  I think it would pair nicely with a jean jacket and wedges.
