Quilted Floral Knit Bomber - McCalls 7100

In my  Fall/Winter To Sew List I told y'all I was in love with bomber jackets. I had started three at the time of that post. I have since completed those three but you can read here and here about what happened with those if you missed it. So though this is the fourth bomber jacket I've sewn, it is really the first one for myself.This time I used a floral print quilted double knit from Fabric Mart. I believe this fabric was a Julies Pick Club fabric. Learn more about Julie's Club here. I'm not usually big on floral prints, but I liked the quilted texture. They currently have an animal print version available and I grabbed it as well. If I had seen the animal print first I would've chosen it over the floral, but I do love the way this jacket turned out.For the ribbing I used 2x2 Sew Classic Ribbing from Joann. Sadly they only carry 2-3 colors; black, white and navy or brown.  For more color options or the more classic striped ribbing try Mood. Thankfully I just needed black. Also note you don't have to use ribbing, any knit with goood stretch and recovery will work (think ponte/scuba) . Additionally if your knit doesn't have great recovery you can add elastic (use your band like a casing). I went with a large because even though the medium I sewed for my sister *fit*, it was little tight in the bust area and I wanted to be able to wear this jacket over sweaters. There is an issue with the pattern I should share. I learned about it because I read the McCall Pattern Company Blog's bomber jacket sewalong on their blog site. On the L-XXL pattern size only, the sleeve arm cycle doesn't line up with the body of the jacket. Head on over the the McCalls blog to see a great write up on how to fix that. Don't worry about this if you are sewing the smaller sizes (XS-M). Actually, I didn't make the adjustment as I was working with a knit and I just stretched the sleeve to fit as it is only about 1/4- 1/2" off. In a woven (which is what the pattern calls for) however this could cause an issue.If you read my previous post on my sister Ankara bomber jacket this is basically the same sew of View A. I did include the faux welts this time. I again added a lining using the technique used by Kelly for the Ollie Bomber Jacket to minimize hand sewing. To do this I did eliminate the front facing piece. The next time I sew this jacket (yes there will be another one) it will be reversible because this looks so clean on the inside, why not?!
