Striped Denim Skirt: Simplicity 2258

Processed with VSCO with presetSadly everything I make can't be amazing and I definitely feel that this skirt is lackluster. I called myself whipping up a quick skirt for FabricMart's Skirt Challenge. Since I didn't have much time I decided to go for a straight forward sew.Simplicity Pattern 2258 Misses' Easy-to-Sew Skirts & ShortsI've made Simplicity 2258 before at the beginning of my sewing journey. Then I used a pretty loud fabric that I had purchased for cheap as a remnant and I only wear it around the house. This time around I wanted to make a skirt I would actually wear out. S2258 features pockets, an elastic waist and waist ties (though I've omitted them). It is a quick sew and could definitely be classified as a beginner's pattern that will give you great satisfaction.Processed with VSCO with presetI used this mid-weight, striped denim from Fabric Mart that I purchased probably two years ago. Because who doesn't need a denim skirt?! Especially in the summer. I felt the stripes, though subtle, add a little something to an otherwise simple skirt.20170522_193216I tried to add some interest by cutting the pocket facing piece against the grain so that stripes would be swapped from the rest of the dress. Since this denim is so dark you cannot see this from distance but I still like to know it is there.Processed with VSCO with presetI really did like the first skirt I made using this pattern but I don't care for this one. I did add an inch to each side seam to allow for my weight gain since my previous sew and it does fit. Perhaps I should have taken it in a the waistband and above the hip, but I'm not sure I could get into it then. I don't know it could be that this fabric is stiffer than what I used previously.Processed with VSCO with presetI also don't "dress down" often (a group of friends from college actually all gasped when we meet back up on campus for a basketball game - it was the first time they'd seen me in jeans and sneakers-lol) so that could be this issue. This is just a simple skirt to be paired with a tee or tank. I just can't get excited about it, but here it is.Pattern:  Simplicity 2258Pattern Description: Misses' skirt in three lengths, capri pants and shorts.
