The Perfect Tunic: Simplicity 8295

S82952One of my coworkers and repeat customer wanted a classic tunic style top. I showed her a couple of options and she selected Simplicity 8295, pointing out that she preferred View C minus the lace up neckline.simplicity-top-tunic-pattern-8295-envelope-frontThis project was my first time tackling cuffs and collar. Typically I wouldn't attempt a new technique for an order, but she assured me she believed I could do it and that if I failed I could just hack the sleeves off and make the short sleeve version. Thankfully I actually made the SewSewDef Katie Shirtdress  before this project so I had a pretty good grip on the collar.S8295frontTo my surprise the cuffs weren't that bad, though I had to redo the placket (is that what the little band is called?)  a few times to get it just right. I also had to pull out my old Singer Precision because my Singer Stylist just does not like buttonholes. Other than that the pattern was a breeze.S8295detail She was thrilled with the tunic and even wore it to work the next day. I am thinking I'll have to make her a few more in some other staple colors like white and black. She loved the feel of the linen look fabric that she selected from Joann. I'm not sure if this is the Calla Green Sew Classic Linen Look Fabric or the Palm green Sew Classic Amaretto Linen Look Solid, but it's definitely on of them. It is a great weight for this tunic structured enough to hold the shape but light enough to wear through a few seasons.s8295sleeve I ended up liking it more than I had planned and now View B is on my fall ToSew list.
