ModKid Wren Dress+Crop Top

Wren-crop-front2I jumped at the chance to be a tester for the Wren Tank Dress + Crop Top pattern by Modkid because I love a 2-n-1 outfit. The dress can be worn alone or with this adorable crop top. The dress features a knit bodice for easy pull on wear while the gathered skirt and crop top calls for woven.I chose a navy knit paired with bright green African print cotton and I (and Miss Socialite) love it. This 13 page pdf pattern comes with very clear directions and illustrations making this a simple project to sew. The bodice comes together quickly and features neck and arm bands for a clean finish. I gathered the skirt front and back separately (mostly because I dislike gathering and find smaller sections easier) which resulted in the perfect amount of fullness. Facings are used to to give the neck and armholes of the crop top a clean finish. Four 1/2" buttons at the shoulder allow for easier on and off.wren-nocrop-frontI'm a fairly quick sewist and was able to finish both pieces in two evenings, the first evening cutting and prepping and the second actually sewing. A weekend would be sufficient to complete this outfit.wren-crop-backI will definitely be making this again for Miss Socialite as the possibilities are endless; colorblock with solids, pair chevron and florals or polka dots and stripes, add trim to the crop top or skirt, substitute snaps for button. I love all things reversible so I will likely attempt a reversible crop top by fully lining it instead of using facings.Wren-nocrop-deckAlmost any knit will work for the bodice; cotton jersey, double brushed, interlock, liverpool, ponte, rayon jersey, etc. Possible woven include quilting cotton, seersucker, chambray, linen, rayon challis, satin, lawn and more. Though the pattern calls for a woven skirt, a knit could be used for the skirt.Wren-nocrop-backPattern:  Modkid Wren Tank Dress and Crop TopPattern Description: Wren is a unique layered dress with a crop top overlay.
