Red Hot Jumpsuit: Vogue 9116
I love this jumpsuit! I first whipped this up in a striped fabric (here) and I knew I would make it again it again in a solid. It took two years, but I finally got around to it. My plan was to sew it up this summer, but alas that did not happen. I started to push it back another year but the highs here have been in the 80's for most of October so I think I'll still get some wear out of it this fall. Whenever the temps decide to cool I can still squeeze out a few more wears by adding a denim jacket. This scarlet red rayon lycra jersey fabric was purchased from Fabric Mart back in January. I grabbed it during a precut fabrics sale and paid just $8 for this 4 yard cut! Fabric Mart has another precut buy out on their site now and they are 40% off (as of Oct 12, 2017), so don't miss out click here. I didn't have a plan when I purchased this fabric but I bought it because I love jersey, I love red and it was a great deal.Last time I sewed a size 10 bodice and a 12 pant. This time I went up a size as I put on a few dozen pounds. All went well as this pattern is a easy sew, worthy of the Very Easy Vogue label. Still I had issue with the elastic, but that is usual for me. What was unusual for me was the fact that I didn't check the back elastic before finishing the bodice. Different types of elastic have different amounts of stretch so typically I measure the elastic to my body instead of using the guides. I'm not sure why I trusted the guide this time, but as you can see it it too loose. I did remember to wrap the elastic around my waist for the sizing, so that fits well.
The only other change I made was trimming off two inches of hem so that I can wear this jumpsuit with flats. The length of my first version stopped me from wearing it as much as I would've like, because I always seemed to grab for it on "chill" days (ie no heel days). Even with after cutting the two inches off at the hem I still did a 1" double fold for the hem partially because I like a wide hem on full pants and also because if I change my mind I can let the hem out.I really love this pattern with the wrap fully lined bodice, the halter neck, the wide pants...What's not to love? It is super comfy and incredibly stylish at the same time. Depending on the fabric you use this jumpsuit could be dressy or kept casual, it up to you.Pattern: Vogue 9116Pattern Description: Wide-legged jumpsuit has very loose-fitting, blouson bodice, and narrow hem.
