Skiff Tee by Jennuine Design
One of my favorite parts of pattern testing is sharing newly released patterns with you. And this time is no different, I'm pleased to share with you the Skiff Tee by Jennuine Design*.
The Skiff Tee is a fun nod to the seaman’s Breton sweaters of France. The basic shape is a wide bateau neckline and slim fit silhouette with straight or vented hems, There is also options for colorblocking the bodice as well as the sleeves! The shoulder seam is eliminated on the blocked pieces for a unique yoke style, and there is an optional chest pocket built into the front seam. A separate patch pocket is offered for the plain tee.
I love, love, LOVE all the options for this top! You can choose from plain or colorblock bodice, no pocket or pocket (hidden or patch), solid or colorblock sleeve, short or long sleeve, straight or vented hem. You know I love colorblocking, especially for kids because you can mix and match any combination of solids and prints for a fun, unique shirt. The wide neckband is a nice departure from a typical crew neck.
I made two versions of this tee, the basic tee and this color-blocked tee with all the bells and whistles. Typically during pattern testing I sew the simplest version of a pattern for fit testing before sewing my chosen view. Thankfully a straight size 10 (the size that matches Miss Socialites measurements) fit perfectly so I went ahead and whipped up the color blocked vented hem version including the hidden pocket and colorblocked long sleeve.
The construction of the color-blocked tee was a little different than I'm used to since the top yoke is one piece which includes the front and back. This was not a problem because the instructions were very clear, despite the many options, as were the illustrations.
Jennifer recommends light to medium weight knits with at least 25% stretch (think jersey, ponte, french terry). I used a solid blue and B&W striped ponte from Fabric Mart. Both pieces were left over from other projects. Yay! I'm sewing down my stash.
