Tropical Summer Dress: McCalls 7774
Often times I begin my sewing projects with a particular pattern and then find my fabric, but this time I found the fabric first. I was in Joann browsing the silky fabrics in search for something to use for Simplicity 8505 when I found this Tropical Flowers Rayon print. Unfortunately there was only 2-1/4 yd on the bolt and the caftan calls for 3-1/2 yd. I ended up purchasing it anyway because I really liked the print.
Later I searched my pinterest dress pattern board and quickly decided on the recently released McCalls 7774. View B called for 2-3/8 yd (close enough) and was a quick and easy sew. So easy that I sewed it up the morning of the Swap and Shop event I co-hosted with Leigh of TopStitch Studio and Lounge. I love a pattern I can whip up in a few hours.
If you watched my Summer Haul video you've already heard me talk about the fact I love all the views of this pattern. I love a dress with pockets and the loose and flow-y fit is amazing during this heat wave we're having in the south.
