I'm a huge fan of concerts! I am also a huge fan of Jay-Z and Beyonce! So of course I attended their On the Run II concert in Atlanta this past Saturday. It was amazing, but there was absolutely no doubt that it would be. Read my post review of the concert here and check my Instagram feed for the videos.

Are you the kind of sewist who "needs" a new outfit for any event? Like a girls weekend, reunion, homecoming, movie premiere or vacation? Well I am... any reason is a good reason, so I had to have a new outfit for the concert. My hubby always ask why I need to dress up for shows, after all the people aren't there to see me and it's often dark, but as my tagline reads "People will stare. Make it worth their while." He also hates that I'm last minute...like when I sewed this jumpsuit the morning of the Formation show.

I did better this time around I actually cut out my pattern Wednesday for a Saturday show...that's progress! Really he needs to thank y'all for voting on what I should make. I knew I wanted to use this Telio bee print crepe I purchased from Fabric.com, because I thought Beyonce...Bey...beyhive...bee. Yeah I'm corny. They also have a gorgeous bee embroidered mesh fabric by Telio here.

After narrowing it down to a blousy top (V8977), a simple dress (M7744), a sexy romper (M7755) or a flirty skirt (S8606) I left the decision to my IG followers. The romper, M7755 won hands down! So that is what I whipped up.

McCalls 7755 is a really quick and easy sew! I'd highly recommend it for a beginner! I've sewn the jumpsuit (View D) of this pattern before (here) and loved it! So I was confident that this would turn out great. I followed the same order of construction as I did for the jumpsuit. Unfortunately I forgot that the underarm was a little low and didn't raise them for this version. However since this fabric is semi-opaque I would never wear it braless so I don't mind much.

This pattern includes in seam pockets which I love, but did not work for this project. It was fine in the jumpsuit that I made before, but in the romper the bottom of the pocket hits right at the hem of the short. So if you place anything heavier than chapstick the pocket droops down below the hem. I think this issue is compounded by the lightweight crepe I used. More than likely I will go back and sew the pockets shut.

Though I would wear the jumpsuit with or without the tie belt, I feel the romper needs it. I paired it with these Lucky Brand chunky heeled black sandals that I thought would be comfortable for the show, but I was wrong. I really like them though, especially because I bought them the day of from the DSW clearance section which had an additional 20% off. Yes I know that breaking shoes in on a night out was a rookie move! Thankfully a smart lady was selling flip flops outside of the stadium after the show!

Difficulty: 1/beginner

Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very

Likes: Easy romper pattern, inseam pockets, drawstring neck, front and back slits, no closures

Dislikes: The pockets show in the romper length and I feel all the pattern sizes could fit in one envelope.

Pattern alterations or any design changes made: I added about 1/2″ to the side seams grading from the waist to the bust and underarm. My measurements were more like a Melarge (medium-large)

Would I sew it again? Yes I definitely see more in my future.

Would I recommend it to others? Definitely, great beginners project.

Conclusion: Super cute romper that has a retro vibe and looks great with heels or flats.
