Tip's Thoughts: Butterick Summer 19
While I definitely wasn't blown away by Butterick's newest patterns, I can't say I was disappointed. That may be because I am typically not wowed by their patterns in the first place. That said, I actually think this collection has some solid staple summer pieces.Up first, dresses:These four dresses are great basic warm weather looks. Both 6673 and 6676 feature fitted bodices thanks to waist darts. And both offer skirt options; a-line and pleated with 6773 and a-line and flared for 6676, as well as length options. There are some differences; 6673 has a v-neckline and shoulder straps while 6676 has a round neck and full back. B6676 also has option button side tabs for more mid-century look. I could see myself wearing either one of these all season long.B6677 reminds me of a RTW dress I picked up at Target on sale a few years back. I wear that dress often, so much so that I've had the though of tracing it more than once. Now I don't have too! View A of this dress is essentially my target dress (my dress is yellow even). As a bonus I'm feeling the tiered maxi dress as well. I'll be grabbing this one.I'll pass on this one because I have several button front dresses, BUT I do like the line drawings of B6674. It looks like a great classic button front dress if you need one in your collection. Princess seams, patch pockets, two lengths and the optional ruffleneck add up to multiple possible variations. I'm going to grab B6685, because I always need more tops. This checks off two boxes; work and casual outings. It's definitely a simple top just a front, back and whatever sleeve option you choose, though there will be plenty of hemming involved.I was worried at first that the sash was sewn into the side seam, but it is separate which also for more wearability I feel. Because I'm always in need of more tops I'll consider 6688 and 6687 are two pattern. Neither one blows me away but both could be useful for simple work tops. They both look easy breezy and could be paired with slacks or jeans.
