Weekend Dress: Style Sew Me Naomi
My girl Eryn, of Style Sew Me, recently released 2 new patterns (Naomi and Bree) and I preordered both of them. This release was definitely "me" an easy breezy dress, comfy jumpsuit and a wrap dress! This is like my dream wardrobe. I quickly sewed up the Naomi Dress (View A) because I was swamped with other projects at the time and I knew I could knock this one out quickly. Sadly it sat completed in my closet or on my mannequin for several weeks because the weather and my crazy month of May prevented me from taking pictures. Finally we were blessed with a day of sun (we really needed the rain so that was a blessing as well) so I grabbed a friend and we got these pics! The Naomi is a quick sew, easy-breezy dress perfect for your summer sewing instant gratification needs. All there is to sew is a front and back of your main fabric and then your lining fabric, hem those and you're done! If you're a beginner, no worries she has a sewalong video just for you.Due to the weight of my fabric, a medium weight stretch poplin?? (I grabbed it from a local fabric warehouse so I'm not sure what it is), I didn't feel the need to line it. So instead I created a facing by cutting the front and back piece a few inches below the bust line. I don't remember how many inches I measured down, but if you try this be sure to cut it low enough that the bottom edge doesn't hit you mid bust as that would be unsightly. I also thought about just using the facing from the jumpsuit pattern which probably would've worked I just never checked to see if they line up. In my opinion the extra weight from more fabric keeps the facing from wanting to turn out so that was always my preferred option.I also went ahead and added pockets, because...POCKETS! I just used the pockets from the jumpsuit view and eyeballed where I wanted them. Due to the slight stiffness of this fabric, the pockets don't lay as flat as I would've liked. I should've used a lighter lining weight fabric instead, still pockets are almost always better than no pockets to me.I love this dress! The fit, the length, the shoulder ties all equal a dress I can just throw on during this scorching summer months and walk out the door. Either in heels like I did for the shoot or in flats for day of running errands you'll still look pulled together.I will definitely be making more Naomis and my next one will include a lining suitable to be seen so that I can have a reversible dress! I also must make the jumpsuit view. AGHHH! I never have enough time to sew!Go ahead and order yours because believe me, you need it!
