Summer Separates Navy Collection: Gingham Tie Top
I'm sorta sad that this is the last piece of this collection to share (see the whole collection here). The best takeaway I've gained from this experience is learning that separates can be fun as long as you have a plan! So hopefully y'all will see more separates in the future! This top (S8927) was included in the collection because it seemed like a no-brainer to pair with the skirt as they are from the same pattern. I also knew it would look cute with the McCalls 6965 shorts. This top is fully lined and the fabric requirements listed include enough fabric for it to be self lined. I share that because I lined my top with a lightweight cotton instead and saved quite a bit of yardage of my main fabric. I used the same gingham linen from Fabric Mart that I made the flared shorts in the collection with. I lengthened the top by 1" to provide a wee bit more coverage for my mid-section. This resulted in the need for a fifth button that I didn't have. That's actually fine, because I think I'm going to switch these navy buttons for gold buttons.
Something about the gingham print makes this to even more summery. I paired it here with high waist jeans and white pants. Throw on a denim jacket and wear this top into early fall. It also works well with denim shorts or khakis. Pattern: Simplicity 8927Pattern Description: A&B Button up, hem tie top with thin straps.
