In the Streets: McCalls 7543
I rarely have UFO's, I typically finish a project once I start it, even if I do squeeze another project in. If a piece needs to much rework I typically trash it. I know I know... I should use that as a learning experience, but honestly I don't.This dress is one of my few UFO's, it was left behind last summer as it I started it too close to fall. I decided to make myself one after making one for my sister (here). History almost repeated it self as I clearly just finished this and it's technically fall. Luckily, here in the south can last until Halloween, maybe even Thanksgiving so I can get a few wears this year.McCalls 7543 is a very easy sew and has several options! The pattern includes this shirttail hem dress as well as a straight hem dress and a top with 3 sleeve options (short flutter, elbow tie and elastic cuffed). I much prefer the closer fit to the fullness of the Simplicity 8124 that was super popular a few years ago.I love everything about this dress; the neckline, the hem, the tie sleeve and the pockets! The did make 2 small changes besides underlining the front and back. I didn't use the hem facings, I was lazy and just did a narrow hem by serging the raw edge and then folding over and topstitching. Also I lined the sleeves to eliminate a narrow hem around the tight tie curves.I used a stripe mystery fabric I received in a Fabric Mart fashion bundle I purchased YEARS ago. It was a little thin so I had to underline it with a white cotton lawn or voile. Even with that there is no reason it should've taken me this long to finish this dress. I'm so happy it's done now and I will be searching for reasons to wear it.Pattern: McCalls 7543Pattern Description: Pullover tops, tunic and dress have elastic on shoulders and sleeve variations.
