Statement Suit: Butterick 6523
I actually completed this suit right before the end of the year as it was my December Fabricista blog post. So you can check it out more of my thoughts on the fabric here and scroll below for more pics and my pattern review. I'm really happy with this suit!
Butterick 6523 is an OOP pattern, but I found it on Etsy. It's actually still available from Butterick in the larger sizes and as pdfs. I wanted to make a suit, but a simple one and this one fit the bill. The jacket is unlined with no closure and the pants have are basic with a side zip.
This jacket called for sew in lining attached the front pieces and I didn't understand why. Since I didn't have sew in interfacing I instead attached fusible interfacing to the jacket facings and that worked well. I also added a mixed metal button for fun. It isn't functional as the jacket has inner snaps and the tie sash for closures.
This chartreuse suiting is a light/medium weight suiting so it can be a punch of color during the cooler months and transition right into brights of spring. It also has 4-way stretch which makes it very comfy to wear.
For a clean finish in the jacket, since it is unlined, I used a hong kong finish for the seams. I skipped this on the pants and opted for serged edges, but look at how that serger thread matches!
