Project Run & Play Wk 1: Shine Bright Like a Diamond
PLEASE VOTE FOR ME HERE!
I'm so excited and a tad nervous to share with you my week 1 entry for Project Run and Play. This weeks theme is Analogous colors.
Analogous ColorsThere’s no denying it’s THE hot color scheme in the fashion world right now! Grab a color wheel, choose your analogous colors, and be inspired to create your own look.
As soon as I saw the week one theme I knew the color scheme. Miss Socialite is all about blues and purples. Her other love is definitely "holo", she wants holographic everything!!! Deciding on what to sew was much harder. I must have went back and forth half a dozen times. Ultimately, I decided on the Dia sweater by Misusu Patterns because I've wanted to sew it for a while and matching joggers because Miss Socialite loves her joggers. The Dia sweater pattern includes a plethora of options. There is a geometric diamond, basic diamond and plain front. Also 4 different lengths; a straight & high low sweater and straight & high low tunic length. If that wasn't enough you can also choose puff or regular sleeves that come in a long and short sleeved option. The geometric diamond is the standout feature of the Dia sweater so I picked this oil slick poly-spandex from Yaya Han cosplay line at Joann. It really set the stage for the color palette as it's a mix of mint, teal, blue and purple. Since I wanted the set to be cozy I went with this mint and dark teal french terry from Cali Fabrics to play off the oil slick fabric. French terry seemed liked a more on time choice than ponte or sweatshirt fleece due to the spring being right around the corner.Sewing the diamond had me a little worried because if one piece is sewn a little of kilter is messes up the whole diamond. To complicate things I chose this really stretchy metallic poly-spandex knit. It turned out not to be bad at all and even if it had been it was worth it to really make the diamond pop!The trickiest part of sewing the Dia sweater was keeping the colors straight for the color blocking. Once I had my color placement sketched out I used my Frixion markers to color code the pattern pieces before cutting my fabric. I should share that I foolishly searched for the two lower side pieces (the lighter color) when cutting the front bodice. I eventually realized that that is actually the back piece that wraps to the front. So this sweatshirt has no side seams! For the joggers I used Simplicity 8268, but added a twist by adding the a side stripe out of the oil slick fabric. My plan was to colorblock the front pant leg by dividing it into thirds, but she preferred the sportier side stripe so we went with it. I love the way it all came together. The french terry from Cali Fabrics was a breeze to work with. It's lightweight with a good amount of stretch that makes this very comfy for her to wear (I know because I almost couldn't get her out of them so I could take the flat lay photos).
Don't forget to vote for me here so that I can move on to Week 2!!!
