I'm so excited be a part of the Style Maker Fabrics Fall Style Tour. New fabrics in a fall pallete were just want I needed to get my sewjo back!

Style Maker Fabrics has so many amazing fabrics for fall it was almost impossible to choose. Read more here. They've curated four fabulous fall palettes; At Home Comfort (monochromatic grays and black), Fall Foliage (warm rusts, browns and mustards), Boho Vibes (funky mix of textures and colors) and Cafe au Lait (rich tans and browns).

The only thing that helped me narrow down my fabric choice was the fact that I already had an idea of what I wanted to sew. Though it is officially fall, it's still pretty warm in Georgia. We have had a few cooler days and or course those days I had to get out and skate! That's when I realized I needed big flared jeans for a retro skater look. I already had Mimi G's Simplicity 8655 pattern in mind which calls for a stretch woven so I selected this Mid Weight Stretch Indigo Denim.

The leaves are starting to fall

This denim sewed beautifully! The medium weight means I can wear them now while I wait for the temps to drop without bursting into flames and wear them right through the fall season. A must have for my jeans is stretch and this cotton/poly/spandex blend provides the right amount (20%) to make these comfy. So much so that I skated in them for a couple of hours! Also the color is a great shade a true deep indigo which I know will pair perfectly with other rich colors.

I've sewn Simplicity 8655 before (here) so I was able to whip these up pretty quickly. Admittedly Mimi's pants patterns usually work well for me straight out of the envelope, except for the fact they are also too long (which is funny because Mimi isn't tall). So besides my typical shortening the only other thing I did was exaggerate the flare more because I really wanted that 70's bell bottom style. Mimi has a great video tutorial (here) that walks you through how to do this with any pants pattern. I sorta eyeballed how much flare I wanted and it worked out well. I should mention did eliminate the pintucks because I wanted a more traditional jeans look.

The perfect pairing to a groovy pair of high waisted flared jeans would probably be a crop top, but in my case that wasn't happening. Instead I decided to go with a wrap front bodysuit with big bishop sleeves. I think in my mind the sleeves and the flares would flap in the wind as I skated about.

I've sewn Simplicity 8789 and had a few issues so I referred back to my previous post. This time I cut an extra large, added two inches to the hem of the sleeve and bodice pieces and made sure to use a two way stretch for the panty. With these modifications the fit is much better.

If you follow me you know I love rayon, it is so drapey and smooth. This Shadow Dot Rayon Twill Shirting Denim is no exception! Think rayon challis just in a slightly heavier weight. The weight actually made it easier to cut and sew than challis because it was less likely to shift. This twill feels so amazing on that it took everything in me not to make a dress instead (y'all know I love dresses, even in the fall). Maybe I need to order the other colorway and make that happen. It would be perfect for a dress with some tights and boots.

This is my first time sewing and working with Style Makers Fabrics and let me tell you it won't be my last. Both fabrics were even more amazing in hand and these pieces are going to be go-tos for me this season. I already have a couple of fabrics in my cart and I'm excited about sewing for fall, which is a big deal because summer is my favorite season and I typically hate to let it go.
