Skating Onesie: Simplicity 9150
Overview:
Recently my sewing has been with skating in mind and this is definitely a skate outfit!
Pattern:
I've made Simplicity 9150 before hereand I love it. The wrap is so unique, but when I made the previously I knew I would modify it for a simple catsuit one day.
Modifications:
The modification wasn't all that difficult as this is a knit and therefore forgiving. I cut the back as designed but simply extended the front pants to be the front of the leotard. To do this Iined up the crotch of the back piece over the front (pants) and blended the two.
Let me know if you'd like a tutorial.
You can see (where the scissors are pointing) that I lined up the crotch lines. Then I the shaded in red
portion is about where I cut to extend the front
.
Fabric:
I used a bold, abstract colorful ITY knit for this catsuit. It has a somewhat tie dye, groovy vibe that is way outside of my norm, but I thought would work well for a retro skate look. The stretch of this fabric was definitely closer to the intended stretch than the double brushed poly that I used for my previous version. This time the 22 fit well in the mid section and hip. I did take out a wedge at the back center seam and taper the legs a big more.
Summary:
This catsuit/leotard gave me strong skater vibes which is just what I wanted. I wore this to a weekly skate meetup and I received so many compliments.
