Pattern:

This is my second time making this pattern and surprisingly I didn't love it the first time. Well not initially anyway, but it grew to be one of my most worn dresses in 2020 when I just wanted to throw on something to head outside or lounge around the house.

M8090 is a tried gathered dress or tunic with sleeve options, inset front bodice and collar stand. Trim can also be added for a decorative touch.

Fabric:

This neutral shadow dot print rayon is from Melanated Fabrics. Its from MimiG's lines of prints. I grabbed a 3yd remnant at the opening last year.

I love how it's polka dot but with a vibe of animal print. The fabric sews up nicely though it did want to fray a bit. The drape is beautiful and I'm now convinced I need the other colorways that are currently on sale, here and here.

Modifications:

If you follow me on Instagram then you may have seen the modification in real time. The first dress I made using this pattern is almost a midi and I prefer a shorter hemline in general. So I planned on using the two tiers length of views A&B, but it was right on the border of being too short. I debated leaving it or adding the third tier.

Thankfully Dressmaking Debacles came thru with the compromise of adding a third shortened tier which is exactly what I did. I was a bit worried that a shorter tier woyj look uneven, but it added some extra fullness and length which worked out great. If I make this dress a third time I believe I'll lengthen the second tier by 3 inches.

Summary:

A lovely pullover dress that is versatile. You could mix prints or color block this pattern for even more visual interest!
