Flared, Striped Pants: Tammy Handmade Freya
When Tammy posted a tester call for these pull on flared pants I quickly applied. I mean who doesn’t like a quick and easy pair of pull on pants? These can be worn for almost any occasion. In an athletic moisture wicking knit these can be worn as yoga pants. Use a lighter jersey and these are great lounge or pajama pants paired with a loose crop tee (like the Closet Core Tee or the True Bias Jesse). Need a pair of work pants that feel like PJs? Try a sturdier ponte and wear with a longer top to make them look more structured. Or do as I have with this pair and use a double brushed poly that is comfy enough to lounge in, but hefty enough to wear out.
This is a great pattern for beginners, even if you’re a bit wary about knits. A nice stable ponte would be your best bet, but I find double brushed poly easy to work with and forgiving.
Fabric:
This striped knit is a piece that keeps on giving. I’ve used it before here and for another pattern test that hasn’t gone live yet. It’s a double brushed poly which I love for it’s high stretch, snappy recovery, inability to wrinkle and soft comfy-ness. It’s only downfall is it lack of breathability due to the high polyester content.
As typical for me I grabbed a striped knit and then remembered that I would need to pattern match. You don’t really need to, but it does drive me crazy as a sewist when patterns (especially plaids or stripes) don’t line up. If you don’t have too many seams this really isn’t too hard of a challenge. Maybe I need to make a tutorial on this as it seems to be a tricky thing to some??? Anyway as you can see below the side seam isn’t perfect, but that back center seam is darn close!
