Is it summer yet? True Bias Lora
The Lora dress pattern is an empire waist dress with four views. All views have bust gathers, lined bodice, loop buttons along the center front and a button shield. Views A and C have half-inch spaghetti straps at the shoulders while Views B and D have long puff sleeves. The dress is fited through the waist and hips and has a straight fit through the skirt with Views A and B ending just above the knee while Views C and D hemmed a couple inches above the ankle.
It’s available in a wide range of sizes (0-32) and B or D cups.
Testing for True Bias is always a pleasure so when I had the opportunity to apply for the Lora dress I did! I knew immediately I wanted to sew View A or C because though the puff sleeves are cute, it gets hot here. As you can see I went with View A because I love a short dress, but I can definitely see the longer version in my future.
The Lora is categorized as an intermediate pattern and I would agree, though thanks to the clear instructions an adventurous beginner could attempt it. The bodice is lined so there is some hand slip stitching and turning the narrow button loops can be tricky if you don't have the right tools. The most time consuming part is sewing on the 15 buttons. Overall it’s not too advanced. I certainly prefer the loop buttons to sewing buttonholes!
I did find the fit at the underbust a bit tight and had to let out the side seams a teeny bit, but I was told that some other testers had the same issue and this would be addressed before the final release.
Fabric:
The recommendations are a light to medium weight woven fabric. Linen, cotton, or rayon are suggested.
I chose this lemon fabric is from fabric.com (which as since been absorbed by Amazon) and it’s been in my stash for a while. I’ve actually used it before for Simplicity 9550, here. I believe it’s a lightweight challis, probably a rayon blend. I love the bright yellow lemons on the aquamarine background. The fabric just screams summer and makes me want a glass of lemonade.
When I sew another version I may opt for a slightly heavier fabric like a linen. And maybe a solid but I’m not sure which color.
