Time to shine

Overview:

Skill Level: ★★

Sewing Time: half a day

Pattern Rating: ★★★★

I, like what seemed like half of Atlanta, participated in the Bey-day weekend dubbed BeyTL. I was at the Friday (mute challenge winning) show. The whole hoopla surrounding buying seats for this show meant I was left with crappy seats. I’m used to floor or 100 level, but could only grab 300 level seats. Yes better seats became available after the other two dates were added, but by then it was too much trouble to sell and rebuy.

Due to my lackluster seats I was originally less than excited, but in the end I am glad I attended. Beyoncé always gives an amazing show, the visuals and production were top notch as expected and most importantly we got BLUE!!! I'll admit I'm jealous that money night got Thique, All up in Your Mind and Drunk in Love.

Pattern:

Since I wasn't as excited about this show as I have been for others I hemmed and hawed about whether to make an outfit. In the end I did make this jumpsuit the week of the show as we all knew I would. LOL

I went from not wanting to make anything to having way too many ideas. I considered McCalls 8369, Simplicity 9757, McCalls 7833 and few others, but finally decided on Simplicity 9150. I selected it mainly because I felt it will also make a great disco night skate party ‘fit!

This jumpsuit has several elastic hems that requires you to sew some hems twice; once to attach the elastic and then again to finish the hem. Though this takes some time the whole project comes together fairly simply.

Sorry for the bad lighting, I had to go back to the stadium because I didn’t get any pics at the show.

I’ve made this before (here) and if you watch my IG stories you know when I pulled the pattern this time I was missing the front bodice piece. I used my previous make to redraw that piece and thankfully that worked!

Fabric:

Younger me would have never worn sneakers to a concert, but over 40, post pandemic feet me requires comfort. LOL They are Ivy Park kicks so they fit the theme.

I grabbed this slinky silver knit which has a metallic finish from Fine Fabrics well before I knew what I was going to make. I knew whatever I decided would be a knit make and silver was on trend for the look of the tour.

This fabric is lightweight like an ITY and I wish I had selected something with little more heft that could offer a little more compression, but it was almost unbearably hot and humid the night of the show so lighter was actually best.

Modifications:

  • I omitted the sleeve flounces.

Lessons Learned:

  • Put your pattern pieces back in the envelope!
