I think I am obsessed with capes. LOL I made two caped dress (see TipStitched) last year and now I have finally made an outerwear cape. During my cape pattern search I came across New Look 6324 and was drawn to View B because of the color blocking. I almost made an exact copy of the pattern image because I love black and camel together. A black and camel cape could literally be worn with ANYTHING! However I had already made Butterick 6244 in a camel fleece (here) and didn’t want another camel piece. So I decided on red instead, but of course Hancock was out of red wool as it was during a big winter sale event. I was going to continue searching (or order online) but this camel/red/black plaid wool caught my eye. Once I found out that it was an even better deal than the red wool I was sold. Since red was the color I initially wanted it was a no-brainer to go with a red lining (also from Hancock) for a pop of color. I also snagged the toggle from Hancock while all their notions were on sale. I actually cut this pattern (and 4 others) out before the Christmas thinking I could get to it while I was off work during the holidays but of course I over estimated my time and underestimated the amount of sewing it would take to complete those projects. In my head I had planned to have the top black and the bottom the plaid because the bottom pieces are larger and I really wanted to show off more of the plaid fabric. Alas when I do too much at once, like cutting out four patterns in one evening, I’m bound to make a mistake. Thankfully this time it was a good mistake as I love the way it turned out.As far as the sewing up of the pattern it was very simple there are 4 pieces cut out of double thickness (upper & lower front and upper & lower back) times 2 for the lining. So though there were 16 pieces total this project comes together simply and quickly. Minus the time I spent cutting out the pattern I think I had this completed in 1.5-2 hours. An advanced beginner wouldn’t even need the instructions. I did glance at them and couldn’t decipher the step where they finished the armholes. I chose to topstitch around the entire pocket securing the lining and fabric together and omitted the topstitching around either side of the waist seam.If you love capes or have been thinking about this pattern go for it! It is a no-brainer. I received so many compliments when I wore this to work last week.I might make ONE more cape? If so which pattern should I use?  As I stated I already own V8959, so I was thinking that one but I’m open.Pattern: New Look 6324Pattern Description: Misses' crew neck cape can be made with optional closures in one fabric or two contrasting fabrics for a trendy color block look. I would but I probably won’t. I want to try another cape pattern V8959 and you only really need so many capes.Would I recommend it to others? I definitely recommend it!Conclusion: Great cape!
