Baby Sleep Sack and Hat- Simplicity 1546

Calm down, calm down...I did not have a baby! LOL but two of my best friends recently did and I had an opportunity to meet both of the new additions to my "framily" over the holidays. Both my new "nephew" and "niece", born a little over 2 months apart, are adorable! I would share pictures of them both but I didn't ask their parents first, maybe they'll send me some pics wearing their sacs. Take my word for it ,though, they are two of the most adorable infants ever!After Christmas but before I returned to work it hit me that I had to make something for each of them. I didn't have much time and I was trying to work with what was in my stash. I knew I wanted to use fleece for its softness. Thankfully I had the pink ballerina fleece remnant that was actually mismarked and was not enough for it's intended project (that a whole 'nother story). I pulled out Simplicity 1546 because I had previously made the jacket and pants for my new niece's big brother last year. I didn't have enough to make the jacket and pants so I decided on the sleep sack instead. Actually since she was only 3 weeks old at the time I'm guessing the sleep sack would be more useful anyway. I also didn't have any pink bias tape but I did have some leftover satin ivory bias tape from a previously project that I think provided a nice contrast. Since I had some big scraps left over I was able to get creative with my pattern placement in order to make the matching hat.Try as I might, I could not make any of the yards and yards of fabric in my stash work for my nephew's sleep sack. So I had to go out and buy some fabric, poor me. :) Seriously I am really trying to whittle away at my stash and I'm on a fabric fast until I do (or until something truly fabulous pops up at a great price) . Anyway I managed to get out of Hancock with just the blender fleece, matching bias tape and a sweater knit for another gift.The pattern was a breeze to sew as it's just 3 pieces (back, front left and front right). The bias tape and invisible zipper might make it challenging for a newbie but anyone who has tackled those two techniques will have no problem with this pattern. The sleep sack pattern is one size only from newborns to 6 months and the hat starts at small which has a 17" circumference. The hat was incredibly easy to sew and complemented the sack to make a cute gift set for the newborns. I omitted the applique because I need more practice attaching them and preferably not on a gift also I wanted to ship them off as soon as possible.Pattern: Simplicity 1546Pattern Description: Babies knit hooded jacket, pants, sack & hat. Hat in 3 sizes S(17") M(18") L (19"). Keep baby warm in cute & cozy knits. Appliques add fun to jacket, sack & hat. Yes, minus the lace/applique.Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, I glanced at them but it's pretty self explanatory.Likes: I think these are adorable and love the fact that it is one size fits up to 6 months. I think adding the hat makes it a great gift set.Dislikes: None except the bias tape.Pattern alterations or any design changes made:None, except I eliminated the lace and applique.Would I sew it again? If someone else has a baby, sure!Would I recommend it to others? YesConclusion: A great pattern! I've made all the views as gifts and recommend it.
