Red Hot Valentine's Dress Ideas
Often I use holidays and events as an excuse to sew a project. A metallic jumpsuit for New Year's Eve, a swimsuit for a vacation, a pastel dress for Easter or a little red dress for Valentine's Day. So even though I have no plans with the hubby for V-day (at my instance) I found myself dreaming up ideas for little red dress.*disclaimer: some of the links in the post are affiliate links which just means I will receive a small percentage in commision if you purchase through my linksI've sewn both V8825 (here) and M7046 (here and here) and both work great with an lightweight stretchy knit like a double brushed poly (here), ITY (here or here) or jersey knit (here). V8825 is an oldie but a goodie, it would be great to wear to a nice dinner. The wrap bodice, balloon sleeves and wide sash set it apart from other knit dresses. Definitely a good options for those in colder climates. M7048 could be a little more casual, but it's flounce hem is flirty and fun. Also rouching at the midsection is always flattering. If you're a little short on time both of these dresses offer a lot of wow in a hurry. We're all familiar with M6886 a staple pattern and M7833 a recent hit. Spice either of these fairly simple dresses up for V Day with some stand out fabric like a stretch velvet, a stretch lace with underlining or stretch sequin. Both of these dresses will work in any climate thanks to the variety of sleeve and length options.Burda 6851 has been on my to-sew list for years and eventually I will make it, but I do think it would be cute in shades of pink or red ponte for V-Day.I have a red Mimi dress (by none other than Mimi G) in my wardrobe and I love it! This dress because it can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your fabric choice and accessories. This one could work in any knit so you're options are endless.Vogue 1593 has been on my to-sew list since it was released. The neck to hem zipper is a sexy features perfect for a V-day dress. On the other hand S8264's ruffle hem and collar are a sweet touch on a simple silhouette. Both would work great with a suiting (I would opt for one with a little lycra content for comfort) or a brocade. My last two picks would work wonderfully with a crepe. Sometimes the envelope illustration of V9021 knows best! You can easily see how great it would be in red (or even a bright pink).Of course there are many other beautiful dress options you could make as I didn't even venture out into indie patterns. Also there is no reason to stick to the cliche red or pink color palette, but it's sorta fun.Is Valentine's Day a day you celebrate? If not, will you be doing a 'Gal'entines with your girlfriends? Either way will you be sewing anything?
