Tip's Thoughts: Simplicity Spring 2019 Release

It's that time again! Pattern release review time! Simplicity recently released the Summer 19 catalog. Let's jump right in!

Y'all know the drill, first up the good!

Mimi has been killing it this year! I haven't sewn up her shirt dress pattern from early spring (S8830) or the backless dress from spring (S8890) yet, but I'm adding S8927 and S8915 to my to buy list. Thankfully I'm hating buttonholes less the more I have to sew them because I love the offset buttons on the skirt of 8927. The top is perfect for summer, but I will definitely be lengthening it to hit the top of the skirt.Maxi dresses scream summer and you can never have enough so I will also gram 8915. Due to my current back fat situation I will only be sewing up view A which looks fairly modest from the front, but the derriere rouching gives it sexiness from the back.I'm not sure I'll purchase 8937 because I don't think it's quite Miss Socialite's style, but y'all know I love twinning looks with her. I think I could get her to wear it to the pool as a cover up if nothing else. If not, I'll pass as I have several caftan patterns already.Another twinning look is 8936, which is actually a mini version of a McCalls pattern M7757 which I made here. Again not 100% sure where Miss Socialite stands on a crop top, but I could always lengthen the top. This also gives me an excuse to make another M7757 for myself.

Next up, the mehs *insert shrug here*:

• S8912 - Cute, but I'm sure I have another pattern close to this. I do like the slits at the neck and hem. It would be great in linen or a challis
• S8916 - Love the tie front, but the bust area looks weird on the model. There's a seam that seams to sit right on the bust and that's not flattering, especially are the larger busted.
• S8923 - I actually like the idea of using two fabrics in view A, it gives a simple skirt so much interest. Y'all know how I feel about color/pattern blocking. Still I don't love the elastic waist AND I'm sure there are several other patterns similar to this that you likely already own.
• S8928 - I'm a sucker for a swim suit, every year I seem to make a new one. The color blocking seams fun and the leg opening detail is a nice touch. I also like view B, but don't see how it goes with the swimsuit. I wouldn't wear it as a cover up and it doesn't seem like the model is either. It's a cute dress though.

There were several "what were they thinking" or "this again" patterns for me this time and I'm not willing to write about those. Some of the losers (in my book anyway) are 8911, 8914, 8918, 8921 and 8929. Sorry I didn't even care enough to create a collage.
