Nautical Wrap Top: Untitled Thoughts Mathilde
Overview:
I've shared quite often that I don't make nearly as many separates as I should. I simply find one piece garments easier as they are just throw it on and go! I like the idea of mixing and matching separates, but it always seems to require more effort than grabbing a dress or jumpsuit. What I'm learning though is if I decide on a seasonal palette or plan out mini collections (like I did last summer-here) I can grab and go with my separates as well. I'm starting to think an easy way to do this is by sewing some basic bottoms in staple colors like black and white and then play with fun patterns for my tops.
Pattern:
You've already seen this pattern, but as a dress when I shared it a last week. If you read that post already (here) you know I love it. I'm really glad that Brittani of Untitled Thoughts included a peplum top option for her recently re-released Mathilde Wrap pattern. Maybe now I'll finally have me made tops.
This top can be worn from the office to date night. LOL Who am I kidding? Most of us aren't going into the office or out to dinner or the club. A better selling feature right now is that as a knit top this is super comfy to where at home on the days you have to cut your video feed on for your telework meetings when you have to be presentable.
You have the option for this three-quarter sleeve or sew a ruffle sleeve (which is a ĺil more flirty). You can play with where to tie your stripes. The pattern also provides eight sizes and B and DD cup options.
Fabric:
This blue and white ITY knit fabric was another remnant piece left from, as luck would have it, a wrap dress, here. Though I'm not sure it is, I call this print a nautical print as it gives me boating vibes. An ITY is great for this pattern as it has the amount of stretch necessary.
While wearing this top I realized I would like it in a sweater or hacci knit for the cooler months. I think it would be really cozy to layer over a dress as a wrap cardigan. It would also work in a jersey (think bamboo or wool)
Modifications:
The only placed I veered from the instructions was the neckline finish. I omitted the band and simply sewed a narrow hem.
