It doesn't matter if you've got a hot date, are staying at home or hanging with the girls you may want a new outfit for Valentine's. If you do, but aren't sure of what to make check out some of my ideas
The classic McCalls 6886 (reprinted as M8058) or Mimi G's new Simplicity 9701. Any color stretch velvet gives these simple patterns an elevated look, but I'm thinking classic shades of red or pink for the holiday.
Vogue 1929 offers a sexy off the shoulder neckline and would be great in a jewel tone ponte knit, think eggplant, emerald or ruby.
If you're a fan of cut-outs Simplicity 9370 is for you. Personally I think this dress would be great in a rib knit, maybe red or black metallic.
Vogue 9343 has a sexy plunging neckline and screams a date night dress, especially in a bold red crepe satin.
A valentine dress doesn't have to be red or pink a little black dress and Simplicity 8330 is a great pattern for a LBD. I've made this is in a ponte (here), but a crepe or sateen would work as well.
A bright pink & bold red version of McCalls 8341 would be a fun V-day make.
Are you more of a jumpsuit person? If so check out McCalls 7910 in a nice ponte or double knit.
Vogue 1524 is dressy sexy one piece with an open back.
Paper Theory's Zadie jumpsuit was very popular at launch and still is. I've made it in a seersucker, but in a crepe or sateen it would be perfect for night out.
What better excuse that the 'day of love' to make some lingerie. If you're new to lingerie making maybe try the Mood Illana Set.
If you're a more experienced shoot for something a bit more challenging like Madalynne Fenix bodysuit. The great thing about her patterns is she offerskits so you have everything you need to make this bodysuit - no searching for notions.
For those who wanna be a bit more frisky go for this Tundra Cage by Ohhh Lulu. All you need is lingerie elastic, o-rings and sliders.
Let me save you some time! Here are some fabric picks:
Melanated Fabrics had a variety of luxe stretch velvets and many other great fabrics.
Fabric Mart has a bright red ponte and a sequined stretch velvets.
Fabric Warehouse direct is a great source for satins.
Stylemaker Fabrics has some love sateens (and many other fabrics). They also let you search by color family.
