I see it, I like it, I want it, I make it

Overview:

I saw this cute crop tee and wide legged set by Lee in Walmart. (sidenote: they have some really cute stuff) Being the sewist I am instead of buying it figured I could make it.

Pattern:

Lee Crop Top

($22.98, available in 4 colors) |

Jesse Tee

line art

First up, the top. The inspiration tee has drop shoulder, elbow length sleeves, cropped length and a deep hem. The Jesse Tee by True Bias has all of those features.

I've talked about this pattern before here, but as a recap it's a great free pattern. My only issue is the neckline is small, but I have a big head 😂.  It sews up quickly and is a good scrap buster as it only takes 1 yd up to a size 18 (women's or plus size range).

Lee Wide Leg Pant ($27.98, available in 2 colors) | Simplicity 9292 line art

As for the pants I wanted a wide leg pull-on pant pattern that had slant front pockets. Simplicity 9272 fit the bill...mostly. The pant legs are more straight than wide and lack the front pintuck, but these were simple adjustments, scroll down for more.

Fabric:

I've had this fabric for years! It's a gray stretchy, super soft sweatshirt fleece from Fabric Mart. I've held on to it for so long because I have had the hardest time finding cozy sweatshirt fleece. Please comment below if you have a good source for fleece backed, sweatshirt fleece with at least 15% stretch! My only complaint with this fleece is it wrinkles easily.

I always knew I wanted to make a sweat suit with it, though originally I was thinking more of a hoodie/jogger set. I'm happy I waited though because this fabric was perfect for this dupe look.

Modifications:

I lengthened the top by 2" to allow for a deeper hem to mimic the Lee top. I also wanted to add my custom label from Dutch Label Shop on the hem.

I used a yard stick to draw a straight line down from the hip point to the hem on the outer leg.

Wide leg modification

To add the pintuck I marked the middle of the bottom hem and eyeballed the middle of the leg piece and used a yard stick to connect those points. Then I sewed a tiny 1/4 SA with wrong sides facing to create the pintuck before constructing the pants. I also omitted the drawstring.

Summary:

I love this set and I want to make more!
