Peek-a-boo Top: McCalls 8003
Overview:
Skill Level: ★★
Sewing Time: 2hrs +/-
Pattern Rating: ★★★★★
This pattern as been in my stash for a couple of years. I grabbed it because I owned a very similar RTW top back in my college years. So it’s fitting that I finally made it to wear to my college homecoming. Spoiler: I ended up wearing something else.
Pattern:
This pattern has three views which offers two sleeve lengths, three bodice length including a bodysuit option and two neck options. I really wanted to make the bodysuit option, but forgot my fabric was 45” wide and not 60”. I was able to squeeze out the longer sleeves and mock turtle neck of view A and the bodice length of view B from the yardage I had. Though I did have to cut the front overlay on the cross grain.
This top is not a complicated sew, but I would advise anyone to check the fit of the front overlay before finishing your armsyce seams. Mine could have been tighter to prevent the overlay from puckering. I don’t think I would cut a smaller size rather I would narrow the bottom edge of that piece.
Next time I will lower the neckline to show a little more cleavage, the neckline was a bit higher than I had envisioned.
Fabric:
I’m obsessed with rib knits! This started over the summer and its rolling over into the fall. This beautiful rust rib knit is from Fabric Mart. It’s more of a medium weight so it will be great as the temps continue to drop. I love the stretch and recovery of this knit.
Lessons Learned:
Test fit the front bodice overlay piece.
Lower the neckline of the front lower bodice
