I am always saying I need to make more tops and I am finally making some! I have a stack of big 5 and indie top patterns in the queue that I want to make before fall arrives (which seems far off at this point). This sweltering weather here in the southern US means I’m mainly making tanks and crop tops
This Victory tank caught my eye because it has a loose swing cut that is very similar to one of my favorites Old Navy tops. It features three mix and match options that include a scoop and strappy necklines, a hip or crop lengths and two backs. I choose to combine the scoop neck, hip length and slit back.
Both views take a max of 1-1/2 yards of 54” wide fabrics so this is a great use of leftover fabrics.
There is a bit of a catch because this tank does call for a lining so you really need 2-3 yds total. I'm really not sure why there’s a lining. Certainly a facing could work, though they can be fiddly. I however decided to finish off the neck and armsyce with single fold bias tape.
It could be argued that this isn't as clean of a finish but it was a fine trade off for me, especially in this busy print.
Fabric:
This cheetah print silky fabric was a 1 yard remnant from Joann for 75% off. When I grabbed it I knew I would make a tank and I think the Victory tank was a good one to use. It's a bit of a heavier weight but the drape still works.
Modifications:
I omitted the lining and opted for single fold bias tape for finishing the neck and arm holes.
Lessons Learned:
Next time I'll try the C/D for a bit more room in the bust and simply to compare fit.
