Valentine Make Ideas
Dresses
Call me cliche, but when I think of what to sew for Valentine’s Day the first thing that comes to mind is a dress. So I’m starting this list off with patterns I think will make great outfits for a date night or a girl night out!!!
McCalls 8383 is a super cute knit dress awith a back cut out (see the line drawings) and a front slit. I’ve made this is a deep red jersey and it would be great for a night out. If you live in a cooler climate I’m sure you could add sleeves from a different McCalls pattern or just throw on a jacket.
With it’s deep V neckline and fitted silhouette Know Me 2050 is great for showing off curves! As a bonus in the right fabric, like my sweater knit version, it’s super comfy as well.
Viki Sews Roxanne dress is a fun make. With it’s exposed seams its a quick sew too as you can sew 90% off it on your serger. You could also have a fun with colorblocking like LaShaun.
I haven’t sewn the by Bryce dress by Made For Mermaids (affiliate link), but I’m loving the plunging neckline. It can be sweet with a lace insert or if you’re going for sexy try a mesh.
Know Me 2067 is more appropriate for spring, but it’s just so sweet I had to include it. I just love the off the shoulder flounce.
If you need a quick project, Simplicity 9701, is for you. Whip this up in a red or pink ponte or maybe a fun print and you’re all set!
Jumpsuits
If dresses aren’t you thing here are a few jumpsuits patterns
I recently purchased McCalls 7910 even though its been out for a couple of years. I think this would be great to sew up for a Valentine night out. I’d opt for 1+5 but any combination works.
The Sirocco jumpsuit, by Deer and Doe, is a pattern I don’t yet own, but definitely need to buy. I’ve seen this pattern in real life on my sewsisters and I love it each time. It’s not only good for v-day buy any day of the year thanks to the pants and shorts options.
McCalls 7728 is OOP (out of print), but you could still download the pdf version. Each view of this jumpsuit is perfect for V-day so take you’re pick.
Lingerie
I mean it wouldn’t be Valentines if I didn’t add a few lingerie patterns. Admittedly quite a few of these are by Made for Mermaids and I am an affiliate, but their Lounge and Lace collection is 25% off thru Monday, February 5th!No code needed. I don’t want you to miss these deals.
The Veronica is a seductive teddy perfect for a sexy night IN! It features a thong or cheeky option, fixed or adjustable straps as well as small bust and full bust adjustment pieces.
Who says ladies are the only ones who want to dress up for a evening in? Sew up the Gable for your special someone. Options include a functioning fly or solid front and an exposed or enclosed elastic waistband.
More of a two piece girl, try the Greta thong paired here with the Lana bra. The thong features three rise options, high leg openings that can be finished with fold over elastic, stretch lace trim or left raw for no-show. The bra is wireless for sexiness with comfort.
Another bralette and undie set is the Madalynne Maris. The deep v bralette and the thong are perfect to wear under a sexy dress or jumpsuit listed above.
The Ilanna set is not only sultry, but FREE from Mood Sewciety. I love how they have sewn it in velvet, but any knit will work for this set.
Lasty but not least is a teddy and robe set from Madalynne by Simplicity. S9802 is a great lounge set! I would argue you could omit the flounce of the teddy if you want a more provocative look.
Loungewear
I’ll be honest I’ll likely be spending the night in. If you’re like me maybe you only need a new outfit to lounge in. If so, try one of these comfy makes.
The first two McCalls patterns are similar. They are both jumpsuits/rompers with accompanying robes. The main difference is 8245 is designed for knit fabric and 8261 is for wovens. I’d opt for a double brushed poly for the former and satin or rayon for the later.
I love the Aurora pattern from Made for Mermaids (designed by Aaronica Cole). I’ve already made two and believe me when I say they are my go to rainy/sewing/lounge days.
Lastly Butterick 6296 by Lisette is a go to pajama/lounge pattern. It can be made with a stable knit like interlock, a basic cotton, a warm flannel or a elegant satin.
