Aztec Vertical Stripe Jumpsuit: McCalls 7755

So......it goes without saying that I love jumpsuits (exhibits A, B, C), but I had to make this one and I'm so glad I did. McCalls 7755 might be one of my favorite jumpsuits due to the fact is so easy to make and so stylish to wear.[gallery ids="13534,13535" type="rectangular"]

You may remember from my Spring 2018 Sewing Plans video that I asked you to vote on either M7755 or M7577 for the blue abstract peachskin I had just purchased. Well M7577 won (you can see it here), but I still wanted to sew this pattern. Thankfully I had about 4 yds of this black vertical aztec print fabric in my stash. It feels like a rayon but I'm not really sure what it is, because I'm not entirely sure where I purchased it. If it's from where I think (a local fabric warehouse) then I never knew what it was! It feels like a rayon, but whatever it is worked wonderfully for this project.The pattern consists of just three main pieces (front, back and drawstring) though I opted to add the optional tie belt. I managed to sew the entire look in two sittings and the first was really just cutting the fabric. Granted a sitting for me can be 4-5 hours, but you could certainly sew this in a day if that day is a uninterrupted sewing day.[gallery ids="13531,13532" type="rectangular"]

The instructions were clear though I didn't completely follow them. If you are using a woven fabric that frays and you have a serger, as I was, I recommend the following steps (to minimize serging):

1. Serge the top of front and back pieces and all underarm seams.
2. Fold and sew underarm seams.
3. Sew the front and back and inseam. Serge inseam. Repeat
4. Serge the entire center front to back edge for both sides. *be sure to mark your notches
5. Serge the curved edge of pockets.
6. Attach pocket to outer side seam. Serge the side seam.
7. Attach the two front and back pieces from the front notch to the back notch
8. Finish the edge of the front and back slits.
9. Sew the outer side seam (around pockets).
10. Sew the neck casing.
11. Sew the hem.
12. Sew drawstring and tie belt.
13. ALL DONE

If you are using a knit then it doesn't really matter unless you prefer to have clean serged insides.This jumpsuit is one of those types of patterns you can't really try on until you're done and I wasn't sure how it would turn out. But when I finished and tried it on I loved. It has a great retro vibe. I'm positive my mom would've or did wear this. What a bonus that it looks great with or without the belt. I could also see wearing it with a wide stretch belt or even a skinny belt. I may grab some black or white cording and use that for a belt!It was terribly warm when I took these photos and this jumpsuit was very comfortable.  The loose feel and slits allow a breeze that is greatly appreciated in the southern summer months. I know this jumpsuit will get a ton of wear this summer. I'm already searching my stash to see if I have another large piece of challis or chambray for another one. Maybe a floral or a solid?
