I’m so glad that Katie of Edgewater Ave is working to extend the size range for her swim patterns. That’s why I’m always glad to test for the new range.

Pattern:

The Maxine Top is a simple bikini top with tie front that give you some control over the fit and eliminates the need for any swim hardware. Like almost all Edgewater swim patterns it is reversible which of course lets you get two looks for the effort of sewing one! I was a tester for extending the sizing for both this top and bottom. My main feedback about the fit was that the bust needed a bit more coverage. I’m assuming other testers felt the same because Katie addressed this with more coverage and a larger dart. I haven’t made this again but I have confidence that this issue was adequately address as the testing version was wearable.

The Whitney Bottoms are high waisted, which I love for covering the tummy a bit, with moderate hip coverage. Coverage options include cheeky or full. These are also reversible so you can get two looks in one. These bottoms fit amazingly and the only changes that were reported was a lowering of the back rise. Though I don’t feel that was necessary for me I can’t see that negatively affecting the fit.

Making both pieces in two coordinating fabrics give you four looks and you can’t beat that.

Fabric:

I chose to use two coordinating swim knits to take full advantage of the reversible construction. The blue color caught my eye first and I almost went with another bright solid, but then saw the floral print which really complimented this particular shade of blue so I grabbed it. These are a local store in Decatur (Fabric Joint) and were a steal at just $3.95/yd.

Modifications:

None and thankfully the bust issue has been address so none will be needed.

Lessons Learned:

Sew the elastic on the “wrong side” the side you don’t mind peeking through a bit. So for me this was the blue side.
